Tangent, normal, and visibility cones on Bézier surfaces

چکیده
Definitions and properties for three types of cones, i.e., tangent, normal and visibility cones for regular parametric surfaces, are provided. Algorithms to compute these cones for a regular B6zier surface are provided. It is shown that a tangent cone can be computed from a hodograph, and a normal cone can be computed from a normal surface of a B6zier surface. It is also shown that a simple transformation converts a normal cone to a visibility cone.

On a remarkable class of rational surfaces in 4-space generalizing surfaces with linear normal vector fields
In the present paper we investigate a special class of two-dimensional rational surfaces Φ in R whose tangent planes satisfy the following property: For any threespace E in R there exists a unique tangent plane T (u, v) of Φ which is parallel to E. For all possible varieties of tangent planes T (u, v) the corresponding families of surfaces in R are constructed explicitly. Quadratic triangular B...
متن کاملGenerating Bézier Surfaces Based on 8th-order PDE
This paper presents a general 8th-order PDE method to generate Bézier surfaces from the boundary with position and tangent vector information. We extend the work on generating biharmonic Bézier surfaces by Monterde to generating Bézier surfaces based on a general 4th-order PDE. And further the results are extended to generate tetraharmonic Bézier surfaces by a general 8th-order PDE. The solutio...
متن کاملA conjecture on tangent intersections of surface patches
This note conjectures that if two surface patches intersect with G continuity along an entire curve, the probability is one that the curve is rational. This idea has significance for surface intersection algorithms. Surface intersection algorithms are typically designed to deal with G intersections, in which the normal vectors of the two surfaces are parallel at only a small number (typically z...
متن کاملPolynomial Surfaces Interpolating Arbitrary Triangulations
Triangular Bézier patches are an important tool for defining smooth surfaces over arbitrary triangular meshes. The previously introduced 4-split method interpolates the vertices of a 2-manifold triangle mesh by a set of tangent plane continuous triangular Bézier patches of degree five. The resulting surface has an explicit closed form representation and is defined locally. In this paper, we int...
متن کاملEffective Back-Patch Culling for Hardware Tessellation
When rendering objects with hardware tessellation, back-facing patches should be culled as early as possible to avoid unnecessary surface evaluations, and setup costs for the tessellator and rasterizer. For dynamic objects the popular cone-of-normals approach is usually approximated using tangent and bitangent cones. This is faster to compute, but less effective. We present a novel approach usi...
